Dots fascinate me. They are simple alone but powerful together. A single dot can appear “out of place” in an image covered in dots. Different pointillism artists have distinct styles, and yet they are just using dots. How can something so simple be so varied and complex?
Seurat proposed colors aren’t singular; they exist based on what they are being compared to. A red next to a warm yellow might look cool, but that same red next to a cool blue might look warm. So then… what is red? To create and discover simultaneously with this comparison balancing act is wondrous and exciting.
